Get focussed: saying no to help you get to your YES
What is your number one goal? Be it work/ life balance, exiting from your business, breaking into a new business stream or working on yourself, surely saying ‘no’ to things is a simple way of helping you get to your ‘yes’?
To help you build the foundation of a strong YES you also need to learn to say NO. So if you really want to make time for yourself and spend your time doing what you truly want to, then these tips may be the nudge you need.
Put yourself first
Saying no sounds easy but it involves you having to put yourself and your feelings first. Making decisions on what you really want to do, not what you think you should be doing. We do this in life and business for so many different reasons but ultimately it comes down to answering one question, do I really want to do this or am I doing it because I feel I have to?
I’ve asked myself this question more times than I can remember and if I’m honest with myself I’ve said yes to things when I felt it was something I should be doing but the truth is, we all actually have a choice… we really do. We can choose ourselves.
Check-in on your feelings
The first way we can do this is to start the habit forming process and check in on how we are feeling. It will feel weird at first, but make it a regular exercise to check your feelings when you go to take action. Does it feel good to say yes to this, or is it making me anxious? What is my gut feeling about it? Remember that opportunity does not have to be jumped on. If you take a moment to actually think about how it is making you feel, it will make the ‘no’ a lot easier to say.
Making space for the YES
Now you are choosing you and checking in on how you are feeling, It's time to make space for your yes.
While you may have FOMO (fear of missing out) if you say no to one thing you are actually making room to say yes to something else, you are saying yes to working towards your priority. That’s right, saying no can be so powerful!
Focus and consistency
Now you are at the point where you have the bandwidth to say yes to what makes you feel really good. I don’t just mean surface good, I mean that deep inside pride in yourself for taking the next step, being consistent, staying committed, surprising yourself with your own badassness.
You have the drive, the focus, the feeling in your gut that drives you. So what are you going to say yes to now you have the space. Whatever that dream is that makes your heart sing when you think about it and scares you a little too, that’s it. Make that your priority and decide to do something towards it everyday, moving forward with consistency and focus.
Now close your eyes, take a deep breath and tell yourself it’s time to focus on your yes, it’s time for you to shine.
Love
