New Term, Feeling Refreshed?
And that was that! Summer 2024 is over in the UK and it’s back to school time.
It’s like the weather knows. A grey, slightly cooler overcast setting today. The light is touch diminished and the days are already starting to feel a smidge shorter.
My son started secondary school and we have been going through all the newness that that brings.
A mixture of excitement and anticipation, together with a slight nausea at the thought of getting lost, meeting new people and being a newbie.
We don’t know anyone at the new school.
It’s the opposite direction to where his friends from primary are going.
It’s a proper fresh start.
We are trained to do this all through our early years. New term, new start. Fresh uniform, new teacher, get out all the kit and go again.
When we get older we seem to forget this is all part of the process. Try something new, feel daunted, don’t know anyone or anything, but do it anyway.
Whether you have children or not, tapping into that new term feeling is something we can use at this time of the year. If you loved school and couldn’t wait to turn up with your new stationery and get started then ride that momentum. If you dreaded school but can look back now knowing you got through it, made your way and have created a life you want anyway, then access that resilience to go back in and work towards your goals now.
If you’re not sure where to start. Remember what it was like with the teacher who really saw you. They taught in a way you could understand, believed in all your potential and showed you what you were capable of. Seek out that teacher and get ready to enjoy the Autumn term.
