Unleash Your True Desires & Create What You Really Want

When we’re afraid of truly saying out loud what we want we do ourselves and the World a disservice.

There is no honour in hiding your truest desires and wildest dreams especially when the person you are hiding them from is yourself.

Yet there is something that happens in our brains that stops so many of us from daring to dream. We limit ourselves before anyone else can for fear of failure. Our primitive brain wants to protect us and so keeps our self imposed boundaries tight and safe. We don’t want to be labeled as a dreamer so we stay conservative. We say things like ‘I’m not that bothered about making money, it’s all about helping people’ whilst stressing out over cashflow for the month and contemplating going to get another job. We think that big dreams are for time wasters and what we have to do is too important so we focus on the daily grind and hustle.

We are afraid of setting audacious and bold goals because we are afraid of disappointment and embarrassment.

To test my theory I have three questions for you:

  1. How much money do you want to make in your business this year?

  2. What’s the value of the results you create for your clients to your clients?

  3. Why are the answers to questions 1 and 2 whatever they are?

Whatever we currently set as our goal is a product of what we currently think is possible. If your answer is that you would like to make slightly more or even double than last year. Why is that? What do you think it will take to make that amount and what do you believe it will take to make double. Whatever the gap in thinking, there’s the space to start to get creative.

So in deciding what you really want I urge you to get creative with the questions you ask yourself. Just play. If you want to make £100k this year, ask yourself what it would be like if you made £500k. What would that look like and feel like, what would you have had to do to create it and what would you do once you had. What stops you from wanting that?

The answers to some of these questions will unlock new levels of thinking. You can still decide your goal is £100k but use the wider thinking to be more imaginative about what is possible and how to get there. And if what you really want is to make £500k give yourself permission to write that down and marinate in what it would feel like to have achieved all the steps to hitting that goal.

I was fortunate to work with my awesome business partner Janvi Patel for 11 years on our business which meant we had the benefit of trying this out with each other. We got to explore the gaps between our ideas - make £1million or £10milli0n? What would it take to make one or the other, how much were we willing to do or experience to create what we really wanted. Why did we want it and what did we think it would create for us. Fun questions to play around with.

Picking an Audacious Goal and then brainstorming what it would take to achieve it can be liberating, fun and feel like play. Give yourself some time to play the ‘What If?’ game. What if I could have what I want? What would it feel like, what do I think I would have to do, what’s stopping me from trying?

And remember it’s just play so when the feelings of insecurity, doubt, uncertainty, incredulity, and generally feeling silly come up - it’s all ok. Nothing has happened we’re just playing.

Have fun!

Love
